ORANGE COUNTY, CALIF., July 2017 - To celebrate the launch of Restaurants Care, an emergency assistance fund for restaurant workers, the California Restaurant Association Foundation (CRAF) will host an inaugural benefit dinner and reception called The Grateful Table. The event features influential chefs from Orange County including Ross Pangilinan of Mix Mix Kitchen Bar, Ryan Adams of 370 Common, and Blake Mellgren of Craft House. The event commences with a twilight garden reception, with delectable tastes provided by Chef Bordeaux from Real Mex Restaurants, followed by a farm-to-table family-style dinner held at the OC Fair & Event Center Centennial Barn (88 Fair Dr., Costa Mesa 92626) on September 9th, 2017 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
The restaurant community will come together at The Grateful Table to support Restaurants Care. The fund is a substantial addition to the resources offered by the CRA Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering and improving the lives of current and future employees in the restaurant community.
“The inspiration for this fund came in 2015 when Jose Santamaria, a restaurant employee in Sacramento was struck in a hit and run after a late-night shift. The doctors at UC Davis Medical Center didn’t expect him to live. The restaurant community came together and raised money to support Jose while he recovered,” comments Alycia Harshfield, CRAF’s Executive Director. “At that moment, we saw the need to do something on a bigger scale. Restaurant Care was created to take care of those at the heart of our industry. We are here to offer care, support and hope during their darkest hour.”
Restaurants Care provides financial assistance for basic living expenses and costs related to illness, injury or natural disaster. Funding for Restaurants Care comes from a variety of sources including personal donations and corporate partnerships. Founding sponsors of The Grateful Table dinner include Sysco Los Angeles, BJ's Restaurants and Galardi Group, Inc.
